Humanity stands at a crossroads, facing two powerful forces that will shape and shake our civilisation: climate change and artificial intelligence. One is a slow burning planetary evolution, the other, a fast moving technological revolution. Both bring risk. Both demand a response.

Willem has been committed to the environmental cause for over 50 years, having been inspired by The Limits to Growth report published by The Club of Rome in the 1970s.

Since moving to Norwich in 2015, he has assisted with the organisation of conferences and seminars on sustainability and climate change, including the 2024 city-wide one-day conference sponsored by The Norwich Society, "Adapting Our City for Climate Change", and has delivered presentations on climate change to schools and community audiences. With a professional background in finance and economics, he seeks to communicate complex environmental issues in an accessible way, offering a bridge between scientific research, policy, and the public.
