The Musical Influence of Birds
Mike Green is well known for his many illustrated talks on musical subjects – especially aspects of the bird world. On this occasion he will be presenting a new talk, taking us on a world tour to show how birds and birdsong, often through poetry, have provided the influence for masterworks by many composers and musicians.
Recorded examples, based on his recent book, Birds and Their Gift of Music, will take us from early folk music, through to the present day and will include pastoral, vocal, orchestral music, jazz and pop, covering moods of ecstasy, drama, relaxation and humour, from the familiar to the unexpected.
A key element will be a powerpoint slide show supporting the talk and the music. This has been a major task, combining images and film with the selected music, and has been undertaken by Frederic Landes, who will be known to many of you for his photographic and technical skills. Mike is anxious to acknowledge his dependence on Frederic in this specialised area and is sincerely grateful for his support.
Mike will have copies of his book for signing and Mark Glaister, who has provided the artwork for the book will be on hand with samples of his work.
