Military History
We have over 20 members but we are always keen to attract new members. If interested, you are welcome to attend as our guest – to try us out!
We hold 10 meetings each year, mainly illustrated presentations but also have ‘away-days’ and an annual team quiz. The range of subjects covered in our talks have included: English Civil War, Boer War, WW1, WW2, Cold War, NI and the Falklands.
2025 Programme
22nd February – Gordon Gurney – RAF Plotting Room, Sector Clock. These iconic clocks were used in Operations Rooms during the Battle of Britain to help track incoming formations of enemy aircraft provided by Chain Home Radar. The coloured segments on the clock face each span five minutes. Corresponding coloured markers were placed on a large map on the plotting table – a simple but brilliant idea that gave us an edge over the incoming enemy.
26th March - Sgt Sadd - Graham Patrick. Amazing story of dedicated research, which contrary to many projects has uncovered the timeline of an individual's war.
23rd April - The Home Guard in WW2 - Neil Storey. This promises to be yet another brilliant presentation by Neil which will be open to all North Norfolk u3a Members – at a price!
28th May - Annual Visit - Destination TBC
