Military History
Now in our fifth year we have over 20 members but we are always keen to attract a new member. If interested, you are welcome to attend as our guest – to try us out!
We hold 10 meetings each year, mainly illustrated presentations but also have ‘away-days’ and an annual team quiz. The range of subjects covered in our talks have included: English Civil War, Boer War, WW1, WW2, Cold War, NI and the Falklands.
2024 Programme
January – Quiz Month!
February – WW2 Air Crashes in South West England, the story of the air war over the North Atlantic and the Western Approaches.
March – HMS Alliance – A-Class Subs. With a ‘real’ ex-submariner in attendance!
April – Neil Storey - Norfolk in the First World War - Charting aspects of Norfolk's military history during that war. Published author (50+ books), known for his ground-breaking research and as a guest lecturer for academic and social audiences plus appears as historian on TV factual programmes and documentaries such as Who Do You Think You Are? and The Buildings That Fought Hitler. Open event; NNu3a guests will be invited.
May – Away-Day Visit - New Farm Museum, Frettenham. Followed by lunch at Aylsham Garden Centre. Self-drive.
June - Gulf War.
July – No meeting.
August – Lawrence after Arabia – In five-parts!
September – Away-Day Visit - Great War Huts, Brook Farm Camp, Bury St Edmunds. By mini-bus.
October – Victorian era of the Royal Navy.
November – West Berlin during the Cold War.
December – No meeting.
We meet at: Field Dalling Village Hall - NR25 7LE 1000hrs to 1200hrs on the fourth Wednesday of the month
