Elly Griffiths Book Launch and Talk

Acclaimed crime writer Elly Griffiths – best known in North Norfolk for her forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway series - was our guest speaker at a recent unique event for NNu3a. I was delighted to be asked if I could organise an event in Fakenham as part of Elly’s Norfolk tour to launch her latest book ‘Elly Griffiths’ Norfolk’. Of course, I said yes!

About 100 NNu3a members gathered at The Gallow Sports Centre on 11 November and greatly enjoyed a morning of Coffee and Cake with Elly. Elly spoke with her usual verve and humour about her early life, her fascinating family history, how she became a writer and, of course, her new book. We then enjoyed coffee and the most delicious cakes, baked by The Gallow’s in-house baker Simon. Two lucky members won copies of the book in the raffle.

Elly has drawn a line (temporarily I hope) under her Ruth Galloway stories with a real cliffhanger – will Ruth marry Nelson? - with the publication earlier this year of The Last Remains. To complement the series, Elly launched her first non-fiction book Elly Griffiths’ Norfolk: a photographic journey through the land of Ruth Galloway on 9 November. In this book Elly takes the reader on a journey through the glorious North Norfolk landscape and events in the novels to the locations where they might be set. Published by Quercus, the book is lavishly illustrated with stunning photographs by Suffolk-based photographer Justin Minns.

The team from The Holt Bookshop were on hand with copies of Elly’s books – not only the new one and the Ruth Galloway novels – but other series that are perhaps not so well known locally – the Brighton mysteries, Harbinder Kaur detective stories, and the Justice series, aimed at ‘tweenagers’.
